7/8 ELA

Just an update on the Grade 7/8's current ELA. We have read a short novel,  Loon Island, by Donna Gamache and are excited to have her visiting us next week! I was BEGGED everyday to READ MORE of this novel to them! We have also started another new novel, Touching Spirit Bear, that is just as interesting as the last two!

Many in our class expressed interest in looking for summer jobs. As a result, we are learning how to write professional resumes & cover letters. Students may be bringing an outline home to go over with parents if they feel they are missing something or needing help with some dates or ideas.

With our school days quickly dwindling, we will have to be reading and writing machines from now until the end! :)

Artist in the School

We have an Artist in the School coming the last week in April!  She is going to try and incorporate  environmental sustainability and responsibility, as well as social justice into her activities with the kids and is asking that everyone collect plastic bottles (dish soap, pop, windex etc., milk containers,sour cream and yogurt containers..) to bring to use.
Thanks!

The grade 7/8 class is lucky enough to be going to MCI tomorrow at 1:15 as part of the Wellness Fair to see an amazing speaker, Robb Nash. He has rave reviews and we are very excited they have this opportunity to see him. You can learn more about him at his website : http://robbnash.com/index.html

Art Reflection & Journal

Just a reminder to all grade 6/7 and 7/8 students that their art reflection (one page, quick questions) was due this week. If you have not yet done it, finish for homework and hand it in on Monday!

Also, for grade 7/8s, your one page journal reflection (from our novel) on heroes will be due on Monday. You will have only 25 minutes to work on it on Monday so make sure you have enough done to finish up in that time.
{It is: What is your definition of a hero? (You may also write who your hero is and why in this part). Do you think Ponyboy, Johnny & Dally are heroes? Explain why or why not.)}

Have a great weekend! It might start to feel like spring! :)

7/8 ELA Newspaper Article

The students have started to write a newspaper article on an event that happened in our novel, The Outsiders. They need to have a rough copy of the article done for Monday so we can revise them to make them better, edit them and then type a good copy into a website that will turn them into an actual newspaper article.
Have a great weekend, keep warm!

Grade 7/8 ELA

Just wanted to write a little update on what the grade 7/8s are currently working on in ELA. We have started a novel study on The Outsiders. To gain a little background information to help us better understand the novel's setting, they have been working on a 1960s webquest to find out about the economy, fashion, music, etc. of the 60s.

In writing, we have just begun a persuasive essay-the dreaded e-word! We looked at a sample yesterday to show that writing an essay really is not scary and they just got started on a little bit of pre-research for them.
